Team China 2003

These photos were taken back in 2003; the top 8 elite gymnasts were preparing for the World Championships. Pictured from left to right: Lin Li, Wang Tiantian, Fan Ye, Zhang Yufei, Kang Xin, Zhang Nan, Li Ya, and Gu Zheng.

I love the bottom picture where Li Ya was on her tippy toes since she’s a lot shorter than the rest, adorable ^_^

Feng Zhe & Co. Training Fun

If I’m correct about this, Feng Zhe’s in green, Wang Guanyin’s in orange, and that UFO doing the vault should be Yang Shengchao ^_^

EDIT:

For those who didn’t get this Meme — it’s known as “Aircraft Carrier Style-Shootering/航母Style-走你” in China, which has spawned from the Chinese navy’s first successful landing on its recently unveiled aircraft carrier Liaoning. “Shootering” emulates the military hand gesture used by flight deck officers to signal the release of fighter jets on board. See more information on “Shootering” here.

Training During the National Holidays

Most people get the entire week off for the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day of the People’s Republic of China, but I guess gymnasts aren’t most people. They’ll still be training all week except for Sunday… >_< I can’t tell who’s who in this picture, your guess is as good as mine ^.~

Picture Perfect

This image was taken at the Chinese National Gymnastics Training Centre in Beijing back in November 2009, after training had finished for the day. Some of the gymnasts featured will be competing in the upcoming London Olympics. What makes it stand out is that it was captured all in one take.

I first gave the girls a picture of the poses I wanted and each girl chose one. Next, I got them framed up and then set up the camera. It only took about ten minutes and three takes and we were done. The girls were so accurate in terms of their timing when performing their moves, that the process of coordinating everyone and ensuring no one overlapped was amazingly straight-forward. — Adam Pretty

He Kexin’s Shaposh
The image is quite painful to watch. I’ve seen posts that make fun of it. Not cool.
At age of 20, it’s hard enough to keep training gymnastics let alone to learn new skills, but Kexin still tried; to me that shows determination and dedication. Actually, not just Kexin, I heard many other girls on the national team trained the shaposh over the winter training hoping that it will end their dead hang deduction on the low to high bar transitions. It is unfortunate they didn’t quite mastered this skill and didn’t put it in their routine. I wish the best of luck to Kexin in London. 加油可可!
